Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

USAID-RTI Effective Water Sanitation and Hygiene Services (EWASH) Project in Abia State

GRACODEV implemented the Civic Advocacy and Stakeholder’s Engagement component of the USAID-EWASH program in Abia State. The program designed to restore WASH services in provision of safe water and sanitation in urban communities witnessed the establishment of community WASH structures by GRACODEV for effective sensitization and engagement across the 14 benefiting communities. WASH structures established include: Women, Youth, WASH Customer Forum and School clubs. Several engagements were carried out by GRACODEV with Traditional rulers, women groups across communities, youth groups, President Generals of communities, the Leadership of Abia State Water and Sewage Corporation (ABSWSC), and Members of the Association for persons with disabilities in the state. The project celebrated the passage of the WASH bill into law by the Abia State House of Assembly, setting up of a new Board of Directors for ABSWSC, inclusion of Women in the Board, development of Customer Service charter, rehabilitation of moribund water boreholes and lots more.
